Black-Eyed Susan Taking Over Your Business Landscaping? How To Get Rid Of This Flower

When planning the landscape architecture for your business, there are some flowers you should know that will take over your garden before you plant them. If you still want them, you will have to give them enough room. Below is one type of flower you may have this problem with.

Black-eyed Susans

Black-eyed Susans are beautiful plants that bloom in shades of yellow and orange with a brown center. When you plant them in the spring, they will start growing in the early summer. They get up to 3 feet tall, and can spread out very easily. These flowers are known as perennials, which mean they will come back the next year on their own

These flowers have many seeds in the brown center of the bloom that can drop off throughout the growing season. Once the seeds hit the soil, they can take root, and then start growing a new flower. The birds and wind can also carry the seeds to other parts of your yard to give you another surprise of this flower popping up.

Black-eyed Susans Removal

To remove the black-eyed Susans from your garden, you have to be vigilant. At the end of the growing season, cut the black-eyed Susans down to ground level using some garden shears, and then use a shovel to dig them out. Once they are removed, use the shovel to remove even more soil to make sure you got of all the roots.

Herbicide

To be completely safe, spray the ground with an herbicide that is made to kill weeds. You can find this herbicide at a garden center. You have to be careful, however, that you make sure you do not get the herbicide on any neighboring plants, as it can kill them.

Tiller

If you do not want to use an herbicide, use a tiller to ground up this area of your soil. If you see new growth next year, till over it again immediately. Along with tilling, you could remove much of the soil where you removed these flowers, and then fill the area back in again with new garden soil.

If you have a very large area to landscape on your business property, you should consider hiring a landscape architect to help you design it, and remove the invasive flowers. They will then help you plant new flowers that will look good and grow well in this area.
